Over the past few weeks I've been working more on my own SEO.
I've had good results out of it so far but I haven't been putting as much effort into it as I'd like to. To be honest, it hasn't been a priority for me.
But that's starting to change now.
I've decided to write up some of the things I'm doing so you can see what I'm doing behind the scenes and apply to your Shopify store.
To start, here's where I'm focusing my efforts at now.
Keyword research - While I understand keyword research and its importance, I've always put it off due to the time investment required. But since it's so important, the past week I decided to really drill down into it.
Content - With the amount of pages and content on my site I'm well positioned to start optimizing what I have here already. Writing new articles is easy for me too so this will be a key part of my overall strategy.
Guest posts - Since writing is a strength of mine, writing guest posts for other sites is going to be another pillar of my overall SEO strategy. It'll let me help new audiences while also getting my name and website out there. This will be the most time-consuming and difficult aspect of my plan.
On-site cleanup - As part of the content optimizations I'm going through a long list of on-site issues. These are things like fixing up a title tag, adding alt content to images, and redirecting old urls. Definitely busywork but it'll unclog the SEO pipes.
JSON-LD structured data - I don't have much more structured data I need to add but given that I sell a Shopify app that does this, I should make sure my own site's performing here.
That's my basic SEO plan. Two "channels" combined with three things to optimize.
Totally manageable as long as I prioritize my time effectively.
One simple SEO improvement you can make right now is to get your structured data in order.
Google has been working on Rich Snippets so I bet there's going to be more search enhancements coming out in 2018 for stores with structured data.
And JSON-LD for SEO is the easiest and safest option in the Shopify app store to automatically add that data.
Already trusted by thousands of stores, it's among the top SEO apps overall.
